CEED at COP29
The 29th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change comes at the tail end a deadly hot year and on the heels of a series of devastating typhoons in Southeast Asia, with similarly catastrophic climate impacts across the world. As world leaders gather in Baku for COP29, the Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED) joins the collective voices of civil society, communities, and champions for climate action in calling for a just energy transition and climate and ecological justice, and in fighting for the 1.5C climate goal.
CEED will be on the ground at Baku, and we look forward to share a series of reports, analyses, and interventions that CEED will be rolling out. We extend a warm invitation for you to join us in these activities.

A year after the historic COP28 Global Stocktake decision where parties agreed to ‘transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems’, the latest regional landscape report from the Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED) dives into the continued expansion of both coal and gas in Southeast Asia, alongside the increasing buildout of renewables in the region. And, as the world negotiates new goals in climate finance that can make or break climate action and ambition, especially in developing regions, the report dives into how much money continues to flow where it should not – fossil gas and coal.
Event: Save Mekong Delta from fossil fuel expansion: Launch of Vietnam gas campaign

This event will launch a campaign to save the Mekong Delta from the impacts of fossil fuel expansions emphasizing critical threats to climate, biodiversity, and local livelihoods. We’ll also delve into actions to push for a just energy transition for Vietnam.
Event: Protecting biodiversity, confronting fossil fuel expansion in Southeast Asia

This event seeks to highlight the plight of globally significant biodiversity hotspots of Southeast Asia and of the coastal communities surrounding them in the context of threats and realities from massive fossil fuel expansion. At the same time, it calls attention to and celebrates the movements, stories, solutions, and ongoing efforts toward increased protection for the VIP, and the Coral Triangle as a whole – and of the hopes for a just transition to a renewable energy future that places people and the environment at its heart.

On Nature and Biodiversity, Oceans and Coastal Zones Day, civil society organizations from Southeast Asia hold a press conference assessing how the climate talks have so far fared in the fight to curb biodiversity loss and worse climate change, and discuss the urgency of shifting away from fossil fuels.
