BPI Unions release joint manifesto calling for the Bank’s coal divestment

On Earth Day, the BPI Employees Union – Metro Manila and the Federation of Unions in BPI Unibank released a joint manifesto on Coal Divestment. CEED commends this initiative and fully supports their call for the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to further increase renewable energy investments and eliminate all coal projects from its energy portfolio.

This exemplary action by the union employees of BPI is a great contribution towards ending the financing for the coal industry, the single largest contributor to climate change and it shows an effective way of how organized labor can effect change in financial institutions to work with them in responding to the climate crisis. We call on BPI to listen to their union employees and stay true to their shared core principle of Concern for People and work with them in caring for our common home.
